Data Brothers, Sun Lamps, and Ethnic Minorities Behind Landscape is a documentary that adopts a hybrid autoethnographic lens to examine photovoltaic infrastructure in Guizhou, Southwest China, and the lives of ethnic minority communities interwoven between the internet and reality. With a fragmented narrative, the film moves from casual conversations with technicians in electronics markets, to fieldwork in minority villages, to livestreams landscape in ethnic theme park. These seemingly unrelated scenes are stitched together by electricity, in mutable, hidden forms. Flowing from solar infrastructure into electronic visual culture, it interlaces modernity with local temporalities and nurtures imaginaries poised between the global and the local.
