About Artist


Yiqing Chen is a Chinese director and artist currently based in London. Yiqing’s practice spans multiple media from documentary, CG animation to XR. By employing himself as a buoy in globalized context, his work explores transnational narratives connected by virtual technology and infrastructure, as well as ethnic minorities and working-class cultures in southwest China. His works float between fiction and documentary, overlapping multiple timelines into a hybrid image space.

Yiqing's works screened and exhibited at TATE Britain, ICA London, Cromwell Place Gallery (London), Conditions (London), Wetdovetail Gallery (Middlesbrough), MEET Digital Culture Centre (Milan), HIAP (Finland), ESPRONCEDA Institute of Art & Culture (Barcelona) and so on. In 2024, he's "Gaming as Method of Sound Production" awarded the winner of Artathon Gdańsk by LAZNIA Centre for Contemporary Art (Poland), as part of Augmented Europe 2nd funded the European Commission (EACEA). Yiqing graduated with master degree of Digital Direction from Royal Collage of Art (2021) and bachelor of Internet of Things engineering (2018).
